About Li Sam’s Storytelling   (01jul2009)
My writing is not just for fun; there is also a more serious side to it. Writing has been a form of therapy for me, helping me learn about my true self. And during my transition, this has been a way for me to support my near and dear.
In some stories these aspects will most certainly shine through, even though no story is strictly autobiographic. Instead I like to write fantasy and fairytales. To me these styles are a more exiting form of writing, providing unlimited ways of coloring a story to make it more interesting and joyful to read. But even when I’m writing in fantasy, I always install a message from real life somewhere between the lines, hopefully for you to find.
In January, I set up my first blog li-sam.vicious-publishing.com/blog, and this has become my soul, so to speak. I like the fairytale format as it triggers fantasy, and here you will find a lot of fantasy. There’s a lot to discover here, and there is no better place than here to get to know me. I’m not easy, but you can comment and ask. And please be aware that no entry here is out of date or invalid, so you can start from the beginning; it’s like reading a book or a magazine if you like.
Across Borders is a major project I have just started. It’s about life, people, you and me, the true persons we are, and it’s meant to be a forum, a new genre if you like, where we meet. I have created this forum to enable “crossing borders,” to help people get together to talk and exchange experiences, despite differences in life situations. In many other places discussions are oriented to specific groups and people, thus excluding other points of view. However, life is universal and should be addressed as such, I think. You will find some of this in my blog li-sam.vicious-publishing.com/blog, and later on I hope to expand this to several other media.
This forum is based on a poetry/tale story I wrote in June 2005 called “Children of the Universe” and you will find it on the My Poetry page. It’s attached as a PDF so you can print it out properly, making it a better read. The framework I have set up for this rather ambitious forum looks like this:
Life There are some things about life that we wonder about because we don’t quite understand them. And there are some things we don't want to know. If we don't learn about our fears and denials, doesn't that make us blind, unable to be even aware of what we're missing? Many people have problems in life for many reasons, and often knowledge and understanding can be their guiding star so they may find what they're looking for.
- Issues: What makes life worth living? What are we searching for? How does age affect us and our way of living?
The Soul: What makes us happy; what are the basic keys? This subject delves into depression—what makes us happy and sad—and the true persons we are, the spirit and the soul.
- Issues: Awareness / Control / Role-playing / Denial / Satisfaction
Love: How does that work? What even is love? This subject explores emotions—another way of communication that talks to our feelings. How does sharing emotions affect us?
- Issues: Senses / Expressions / Lovers / Friendship / Looks / Hatred
Gender: Can we define man vs. woman? How about male/female behavior? This subject focuses on gender identity and how gender affects us, both when we meet others and our selves, our very own gender.
- Issues: Definitions / What Is Normal / Intersexualism / Transsexualism / Identity (mental/anatomy/other)
Attraction: Sexual orientation: what is it and what is it based on? This subject explores sexual attraction that makes us want to live together and non-sexual attraction that makes us become friends.
- Issues: Heterosexuality / Lesbian / Gay / Bisexuality / Trans? / Queer? / etc.
Relations: How we are raised is important to our identities, but are we allowed to show our true selves? If not, can we cope? This subject mirrors upbringing—expectations—with the ability to match all expectations set up for us.
- Issues: Spouse & Partner / Family / Friends / Workmates / Society
Diversity: How do we as people differ? Personality: What is that? Is there really a norm, and if there is, who decides it? This subject is about handicaps and mental disorders and our behavior when affected by them.
- Issues: Disabilities / Media reports / Student education / Healthcare / Acceptance (law) / Integration (welcome)
Death There are many things about death we don’t understand and wonder about. And again, there are some things we don't want to know. If we learn about our worst fears, might we gain something, rather than losing anything? Many people die for no obvious reason at all, and some take their own lives while young. Can that universal guiding star guide us in death too?
- Issues: What makes us grieve? Do we need to mourn when people die? Are there things worse than death?

God God is a friend of mine. I don't need any special house to go to and I don't need to pray to connect with God; my God isn't like that. My God is with me at all times. And as a "Child of the Universe," God gave me my body and made me alive. The body I was given wasn't me, but the soul God made for me is.
Even if my body were wrong, for whatever reason, I'm proud of that character, the role I had to play. When one day that character became aware of life and me, he took me by the hand, leading me to the light I could follow. This light was created for me, illuminating paths through the universe we shouldn't miss.”
As people we often forget about our true selves and think only of those bodily parts, expectations, and how others want us to be. Whatever disabilities we have, the soul is free. Life is God and God is life, and those beams of starlight that made us: those stars in the end are us.
The King and the Boy
Written by Li Sam, November 2005.
This tale takes place a very long time ago and is about a seemingly small, harmless event that grows to a problem that even today affects us greatly.

As adults we often repress the open minds we had as children, which often makes us grey and sulky.
Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of our open minds with these colorful childhood fairytales that have simple solutions to problems, making everyone happy (with the exception of the bad guys, of course). And who knows what our childhood innocence may provide us with when we’re looking from another side at our many ordinary problems?
I wish this little tale could be a start to coloring our future, and perhaps someday this tale will come true.
